Chipmunk's Art

The Artist

Here's our happy little artist. Sometimes I wonder what is going on in his little head. Okay, so I often wonder what is going on in his little head. After seeing some of his artwork and hearing his explanations, I'm scratching my head even more at what kinds of thoughts are firing across his little neurons.

"Is this a spider?" I asked.

"No! It's a octopus that walks on its legs!"

"Okay, then what's this?" I pointed to the next picture.

No Ghosts Allowed

"I drawed a ghost and a sign that says 'No Ghosts Allowed' on it..."

"No ghosts?" I asked.

"Yeah...the ghosts can't go because I drawed a sign with a circle and a line in it."

"Ah, well too bad for that ghost," I responded.

Paint, Squish, Glue, Smile

Art.

That's what Bear told me she wanted to do for her birthday party. So a little research led us to the Art Zone. After a brief visit to see what they had to offer, we were hooked. Plus, we couldn't get Bear to leave the place...so it was decided...

Seriously, clay, some goopy stuff, easels stocked with paint, projects with glue and beads, a play area with dress up clothes, paint that you can spray on fake windows and then squeegee, and a mud and water room for...yup, playing with mud and water. It's one of those places you walk in and think, "man, I wish I was a kid again."

Add some pizza, spam musubi and a chocolate cake, invite some friends from play group, and you've got a party!

She was so tired afterwards, she passed out on our couch...hopefully dreaming about fun, art-y things.

Now on to plan Chipmunk's dohl.

Through Bear's Eyes

DSC_9145

I used to wonder what Bear's view of the world was like...what she sees and how she sees it. For her birthday she got her very own camera. Apparently this is how she views the world...Hope you enjoy her version of our trip.

The Budding Artiste

Bear has been loving "art" lately. Whenever she gets a chance she runs up to me and asks, "I do art?" This means pulling out her box with her crayons and glue and scissors and a quiet 45 minutes of her "creating." Her favorite part being when her work is completed and she runs up to show either Matt or myself her masterpiece. Before her work consisted of random blobs and scribbles, but lately her work is starting to take actual shape and form. So now for you, our blog readers, we present Bear's gallery of her latest artwork.

Monster

"Monster," 2008. Medium: Magnadoodle.

Monster with Belly Button

"Monster has Belly Button," 2008. Medium: Magnadoodle.

Orange Fish

"Orange Fish," 2008. Medium: Orange Crayon.

Family Portrait by Bear

"Daddy, Mommy, me and Baby and Sonja," 2008. Medium: Purple Crayon.

She really enjoys her "art." She's like a little Miro.

Summer Breezes

Summer is hot. Summer is fun. Summer is busy...

Summer continues to breeze on by...

Bear has been taking an art class. Her favorite pastime in class is using the scissors. Perhaps it's because we don't own any kiddie scissors at home so she's been deprived that she makes a bee line for those colorful plastic cutters. Occasionally she'll glue, but most of her artwork just has this fringe around the outside where she went scissors happy.

Bear Art

Well, except the windsock which was supposed to have fringe...which she happily snip-snipped.

July 4th we spent the day with some of my longtime friends (minus one who we missed terribly)...We tried to get some good pictures of the kids together...but if you know anything about taking pictures of multiple kids...it just never works out...especially with five of them...

At night we went to view the fireworks. Bear enjoyed her corn...

Corn is Yum

...and Chipmunk was a little fussy, at least until the fireworks started and then he was mesmerized for the whole half hour show.

Fireworks are cool

Until next post...summer will continue to breeze on by.

Bear the Artist

Bear and I were coloring the other day. She picked up her purple crayon and started drawing. I asked her, "What are you drawing?"

"I color happy face!" Bear said with a smile.

Then she pointed to different parts of her drawing and pointed out the eyes, the nose, the mouth and the hair.

I was impressed. Can you see her happy face in her drawing?

Happy Face!
