All About Hair

Chipmunk's stint as a hair stylist was a short one...here's his handy work.

Chopped Hair

We think he was going for the layered look.

Speaking of hair...I'm always amazed at how Chipmunk's hair can defy gravity when it wants to.

Bedhead

I even sent him to preschool with this hair. So far his cowlick is going on 8 hours.

An Unintended Haircut

Me: Why are there strands of hair all over the carpet?

Chipmunk: (proudly) I cut my sister's hair!

Me: Bear, why did you let your brother cut your hair?

Bear: I didn't. He just cut it.

Me: (shakes head and mentally tells self to hide all scissors)

White

After my shower this morning, I mentioned to Matt that I'm losing all my hair. All that hair that the pregnancy hormones helped me retain are now falling out. It's a verifiable mess since my hair has reached super lengths

In the car Matt pointed out that I had two white hairs and said. "too bad the white ones didn't fall out."

White hairs. Ever since I turned thirty, I've been finding white hairs. I think they're stress related. Or I should say that I hope they're stress related.

Of course I know one day that may not be the case...So this time I'm going to ignore that old adage about plucking out white hairs and hope beyond hope that they don't come back.

Mommy Unaware

Matt doesn't understand why I don't notice when he gets haircuts. I don't notice when anyone gets haircuts...that is, unless there were multiple feet of hair chopped off. It's just not one of those things I notice. It always amazes me, those women, who notice when someone gets even just a trim.

So it's always a game we play. Matt gets a haircut and waits to see how long it takes me to notice.

Last Saturday Matt got a haircut after work. Bear saw her dad for the first time that day and said, "Daddy Hair!"

I just don't get it.

Longing for a Haircut

Reasons to Cut My Hair:

1) The last time I had it cut, Bear was in the womb.
2) I have to use Costco size bottles of conditioner in order to have enough to condition it.
3) Brushing is a painful ordeal. Bear actually copies me by pretending to brush her own hair. She even says, "ow ow ow."
4) Every time I sit down I sit on my hair.
5) Every time I lay down I lay on my hair.
6) Chipmunk likes to grab the loose hairs while he feeds. Ouch.
7) It takes forever to dry.
8) Last but not least, Someone out there could really use my hair.

One of these days I will get to it.

Haircutting 101

So can anyone out there tell me how to properly cut hair? Especially the hair of a squirmy, squiggly toddler?

A few months ago, I managed to cut Bear's bangs, but it took me three days to get it right. In the end, I cut it a little too short, a little too straight, and my baby looked liked one of those dolls you get from the Americ@n Girl Company.

Now her hair is growing out again into and over her eyes. I've been attempting to chop it here and there, but it's just becoming a jagged mess.

Help.

Bad Hair Day...

Matt and I have been trying to take Baby Bear to have pictures taken. Now that she's almost 10 months old, we thought that it was about time to do some of those typical parental duties like taking portrait shots at Sears. That way, the grandparents would be appeased for a while (especially since it's been 2 years and we still haven't gotten our wedding album put together....shhh!).

So we've been trying to take her for a few weeks now, but something always comes up. She catches a cold and we figure dripping snot would not be something we want captured for years to come. So we wait. She wakes up with a scratch on her face that left a red mark from her forehead to her cheek. So we wait again.

So finally after days of waiting, I was going to take her today. Unfortunately, we will have to wait a little bit longer. She seems to have developed the most stubborn cowlick I have ever seen. I tried water, combing, rubbing...everything short of hair products, and it still pops back up. Oh well, pictures will just have to wait...again.
